The Nicaragua Spanish Institute, NicaSpan, was officially founded in 2006 as Spanish School by a group of Spanish language teachers. It is a Nicaraguan Spanish School owned and operated by Nicaraguans. We are the first Spanish School in Masaya, Nicaragua, established as pioneers with clear goals.
One of these goals is to teach high quality Spanish courses as a second language and to contribute to the cultural exchange between countries. Through our spanish programs we generate employment and contribute to local economy in a clean way, free of pollution.
As part of a mutual cooperation agreement NicaSpan has its office and campus in the Casa de Cultura Alejandro Vega Matus at just half a block west from the Parque Central in downtown Masaya.
Volunteering in different art areas is possible at the Casa de Cultura through NicaSpan. English courses for children and local artists, piano and guitar lessons for general public, painting lessons for children, painting techniques for painters and handicrafts mini courses could be part of the volunteer work to be done by NicaSpan students prior request and information. Others could be arranged. Through NicaSpan you can study in one packet with many different Spanish schools in various cities of Nicaragua with our partner Spanish schools in Granada, San Juan del Sur and León.
Our spanish students have the opportunity to continue studying Spanish in San José or Guanacaste, Costa Rica with NicaSpan partner Spanish schools in Costa Rica. Our staff will assist them for their trip by TicaBus, TransNica or Central Line international buses.
Our spanish courses include the host family, in Nicaragua, lodging in the cost but students can either choose living with a host family or in an affordable hostal or hotel on their own. See Courses and Pricing to check the amount to be deducted in case you choose not to live with a host family. Classes are taught in two different shifts morning and afternoon. The opposite shift is to go on activities that include local visits and excursions either with the academic or field instructors. You may be placed either in the morning or afternoon shift depending on the academic instructors’ availability. The academic Spanish instruction is done for four hours with two short breaks Monday to Friday.
Spanish class material such as workbook, notebook and pens are given to our students. Free coffee and tea is offered to students at the school. Free Internet access for students is also included in each of the courses offered by NicaSpan. The advantage to learn Spanish with our spanish school is that we are located in Masaya, a city with not many tourists which provides good opportunities to practice your Spanish and experience the real Nicaraguan culture and traditions.
The spanish school uses various dynamic techniques to teach Spanish to allow students an easy and quick way of learning the Spanish language. For years, local language schools have debated about this subject; NicaSpan has adopted a practical method to maximize the spanish learning process into a more dynamic, kinaesthetic, practical and participative system in which the students learn by doing, by participating, by playing and interacting with the natives helped and orientated by our instructors who are trained for this task. Some of our spanish instructors have international experience in other Central American Spanish schools.
